Our Coffee

We use ‘Owemba’ to describe something outstanding in our local language, Lhukonzo. It is the name we have chosen for our fully-washed Arabica mircro-station coffee.

Watered by glacier streams, our coffee thrives on the rugged slopes of snow-capped Rwenzori ‘Mountains of the Moon’ in Western Uganda. We have the perfect conditions to grow beautiful coffee but until recently, we were isolated from international coffee markets.

Our 5,500 farmers are now proudly part of the movement in Western Uganda to invest in transforming the quality of our washed Arabica coffee and to establishes its reputation on the specialty coffee market.

We are USDA and EU certified organic as well as US Fair Trade certified. We currently export coffee to the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Africa and Japan. Bukonzo Joint’s ‘Owemba’ coffee is one of the best quality coffees on the world market. Bukonzo Joint coffee cupping for the 2012-13 season achieved 85% from Atlas, a USA coffee buyer based in Seattle.
